MP By Polls A Prestige Issue As The State Goes To Polls Soon
The Madhya Pradesh by-polls is likely to an interesting one as two powerful opponents—Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan and scion of Scindia family, Jyotiraditya Scindia are on the battleground to win the hearts of its people. The BJP backed CM Shivraj Chouhan is not leaving anything to chance or resting on past laurels to win the elections, and is traveling on a rath with a hydraulic lift across his Mungawali constituency to meet his constituents. His favorite pitch is “we shall do the work of five years within five months if given a chance”.
Mr. Scindia who was a former chief minister of the state, hails from Guna and belongs to the royal family of Scindia. His convoy of party workers and supporters traveling across Piprai, Khoksi and Keshopur is chanting his name in anticipation of a thumping victory. These seats were recently vacated after the death of congress representatives in the region. Mr Scindia has launched his election campaign by declaring that the fight is now against him and Shivraj Chauhan as political opponents instead of being a fight against two powerful political parties.
But CM Shivraj also does not seem to be a man who is likely to back down though he maintained that “I am not here for a wrestling match but to seek votes from the people”. The state is heading for polls towards the end of 2018 and though the BJP party has managed to retain its seat for 15 years, it has to do something powerful to counter the anti-incumbency. Mr. Shivraj has addressed more than 40 rallies and 10 road shows to impress the people before the by polls with an entourage of 18 plus cabinet ministers. Mr Scindia has also addressed more than 75 rallies and participated in several road shows exuding confidence as huge crowds turned up at his rallies.
